Journeys can be of many sorts. We can move physically, from place to place or use the most unique human talents to project ourselves into another time. In doing so, we can imagine new realities, learn from the past, envision possible futures, and shape who we are and the world that surrounds us.
TED and frog invite you to participate in the fifth TED Salon in London to hear speakers explore these themes, and take part in the conversation with other TEDsters. We will also unveil a new special design mind issue devoted to TEDGlobal 2011.

Taryn Simon
Photographer
A Living Man Declared Dead
Taryn's newest work, where she recorded and photographed bloodlines and related stories from around the world, exploring the collision of internal (psychological and physical inheritance) and external (territory, power, circumstances, culture) forces, is currently exhibited at
the Tate Modern.

Mark Rock
Founder & CEO, Audioboo
Capturing the Spoken Word
Mark believes that oral history has been left behind in the recent explosion of online innovation, and the technology he and his team developed wants to change that, making it easy to record audio and add metadata on the move, and possibly providing a platform for the re-emergence
of oral storytelling.

Alice Russell
Singer
Music Performance
With her sultry voice chock-full of soul power, Alice is one of those fabulous British girls with a great big soul sound, combined with seriously clever musicianship. She performed at TEDGlobal 2011.

Jörg Reckhenrich
Artist, Management Thinker
Gaganomics
Four years ago Stefani Germanotta was a smart young American woman no one had heard of. Today she's Lady Gaga, a global, pervasive, outrageously creative multimedia phenomenon. What lessons in leadership can be learned from Gaga? Jörg co-authored the first paper on the subject.

Catherine Mayer
Author
Amortality: Anatomy of a (New) Species
In her recent book "Amortality" Catherine posits that despite the significant lengthening of our age expectancy, we live in an age of age confusion: instead of going through distinct "ages", more and more people seem to be living agelessly, doing the same things and living in the same way from late teens right up to death.

Neil Burgess
Neuroscientist
Where Did I Park My Car?
Most of us know how to find our car in a big parking lot. But how do we know? What are the processes in the brain that help us navigate our physical environment? At University College in London, Neil researches how patterns of electrical activity in brain cells guide us through space, and how that links to memory and imagination.

Erik Johansson
Photographer and retoucher
Creating Impossible Images
Erik makes impossible photos. Photos that can't be taken with a camera -- that are rather the product of extreme photoshop wizardry. With a twist: look at them, and while you know that they are impossible, you will find them also realistic and plausible.

Rory Sutherland
Ad Guru, WikiMan
A Wiki Conversation
From unlikely beginnings as a classics teacher to his current job as Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Group, Rory has created his own brand of the Cinderella story. His insights into advertising and society in the age of the Internet are now gathered in a new book, "The Wiki Man".

Lisa Harouni
CEO, Digital Forming
Just Click on Print
3D printing has been around for almost 30 years, but has always been too cumbersome, inefficient, expensive. But we may be at at tipping point, with new hardware and software making it possible to imagine a future of creating bespoke products in industrial quantities. Lisa heads one of the pioneering firms in this sector.

Sada Mire
Somali archeologist
We Need Culture In a Time of War
Alongside her work at University College London, Sada heads the department of antiquities in Somaliland. She has made amazing discoveries, including 5000-years-old rock paintings and ruined medieval islamic sites. She considers cultural and archeological heritage, even in war-torn countries, as a basic human right.

Preston Reed
Guitarist
Music Performance
As the most innovative guitarist of a generation, Preston has invented an entirely new way of playing the acoustic guitar -- with original compositions fusing chord-based grooves, soaring melodies and polyrhythmic percussion, creating a style that continues to be a massive influence on younger players.

Kwasi Kwarteng
British Conservative MP
The Empire and Today
A young member of Parliament from Surrey, of Ghanaian origins, Kwasi is the author of "Ghosts of Empire", a new and controversial book that revisits the Victorian empire, analyzes how we became the societies that we are today, and discusses the arc of hegemonic powers.
